Lucia Silva To All Instructors

Teacher & Firefly Co-Founder

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Lucia and her husband, Micah Gell-Redman, relocated to Athens with their two young children in 2015. They have homeschooled since 2016. After a long career in the book industry, Lucia has come to savor the slower, mindful life of an unschooling mom. She enjoys diving deep into fiber arts, needlework, sewing, and other decorative and practical arts. Since the birth of her children, Lucia has been active in leading educational and support groups for attachment parents, homeschooling moms, young writers, knitters and crafters of all stripes. Forming a secular homeschool community has been a dream of hers since moving to Athens, and she’s thrilled to be a part of bringing Firefly to fruition.  

For over a decade Lucia worked as a buyer and manager for independent bookstores in Los Angeles and San Diego and was a regular book reviewer for NPR’s Morning Edition with Susan Stamberg. She studied art history and poetry at Sarah Lawrence College, and holds a BA in Liberal Arts from The Evergreen State College.
